Yesterday, I was lucky enough to see one of my favorite photography artists, Terry Evans, speak about her gorgeous retrospective, Heartland, currently on view at the Nelson-Atkins in Kansas City.  I was so impressed by her talk, her humility, her wholesome lifestyle, and her honest approach to making photographs.  I struggle constantly with the ambivalence I feel toward a life of intense goals, un-fulfilling success, and pursuing art aggressively, versus quiet, contentment, and enjoyment of my life in areas other than art-making.  Seeing this talk made me feel really excited to be where I’m at.

Here are a few of my favorite images from the show/the exhibition catalog, her presentation, and her website.
