Something I love about photography of animals, alive or dead, is the diversity I often see amongst human subjects. I think audiences are frequently surprised to see all the different types of people who preserve big game animals, who keep pigeons on their roof in New York City, who dress up their dogs and show them off at pageants (hints at upcoming posts here!). I was thinking yesterday while visiting the About Face exhibition at the Nelson-Atkins that it’s been a long time since I really looked at contemporary portraiture in photography, and I’m happy when I come across beautiful portraits like these of people and their relationship with animals.
