At first glance, this series reminds me of the work of Karen Knorr (about whom I realize I must post here someday soon); digital manipulation/combination, animals in spaces where they obviously don’t belong, etc.  However, what’s different about this work is that it is a collaboration with other photographers.  The artist approached the makers of the images of the animals, while he created the photographs of the spaces.

What I appreciate is the animal’s connection to the particular space, whether it is formal (the rhino, the walrus) or ironic (the hog in the diner, the camel at the pool) or carries an environmental message.  I respond most to the animals in the subway tunnels.  The concept makes me think of the actual, physical places where animals would be if not for the existence of man-made structures.
