Compiling last Thursday’s post about CJ Heyliger got me thinking about someone whose work I saw while I was at MICA, Alex Larsen. It’s a few years old, but this group of images has stuck with me.
From the artist’s statement: The idea of nature is synonymous with beauty, but in almost the entire populated world human intervention is evident. The only way most people can experience the natural world is through the man-made parameters already laid down upon it. We began as an extension of nature and now nature has become an extension of us. With technological advancement, many real physical experiences have taken the back seat. In many cases we have become satisfied with simulated events, or content with understanding things the same way every time. With this work I hope to excite the viewers’ senses with unique experiences and scenarios while leaving them intrigued with the physical realities illustrated in these photographs.
