I saw Jo Whaley speak a couple of years ago at the regional SPE conference in Santa Fe, NM.  I had been a little familiar with her work, but seeing her speak and present captivated more of my interest.  I remember that she is a soft-spoken, graceful person, and since it has been some time since that conference, what I will say right now is that I think her photographs speak quite well for themselves.  Jo Whaley has been making artwork a long time, as evidenced by her portfolios on her website.  My favorite is Natura Morta, from which some of these images come.  From a statement on the artist’s website, Significantly, “Natura Morta” means “still life” in Italian, with the literal translation of the words being “dead nature.”
